Brett Guy

Brett Guy is an Engineer and emerging artist. Throughout his career he's designed mechanical systems for award winning building projects. He's lived and worked in 4 different countries and been travelling the world for 30 years.

Originally from Canada, he now lives in Singapore. It was here, when he turned 50, he discovered a hidden talent for drawing that had eluded him throughout his life. He works with simple materials; classroom HB pencils, eraser and paper. Brett creates detailed, intimate portraits of people's character. He aims to capture the spirit of his subjects facing the world they live in. The viewer is confronted with the stark absence of alienation and compelled to reconsider the notions that separate them from others.

Brett’s work is a preliminary response to the challenges facing our planet today. The existence of life is threatened. It will take respect and cooperation to keep the world safe and liveable. His portraits gently expose the innocence and vulnerability of being human and deconstruct the preconceptions that alienate people. His drawings aim to remind us how important it is to care for each other and to give a glimpse of what's at stake if we don’t.
