Empowering street kids with street art
Blue Dragon Children's Foundation in Hanoi rescue trafficked children and work to protect vulnerable homeless young people. The United Wold College of SEA (Singapore) has supported Blue Dragon's work through their student led volunteer programme Global Concerns for several years.
The founder of Nüwa, Elaine, herself a UWCSEA Alumni, first volunteered with Blue Dragon and UWCSEA in 2016. Since that time Elaine and Nüwa now bring expertise in arts and event management, and social project development into the mix.
Our collaboration has allowed for the development of an arts outreach programme which is being delivered in partnership with UWCSEA, Blue Dragon and Nüwa. As the project develops it is reaching a growing number of young people in Hanoi and involving Singaporean and Hanoi-based artists. The latest partners to join the project include Singapore street art collective RSCLS and Addicted Gallery.
In September 2017, Elaine visited Hanoi for a series of street art workshops with the Blue Dragon kids, and a masterclass with them at the Hilton Hotel Hanoi. The hotel have worked with the kids to design a vietnamese canape to serve at the Blue Dragon Annual Reception held at the Singapore Hilton Hotel in November 2017.
